Imagine the scenario - you decide to go somewhere so you get into a cab, and the conversation goes something like this:
Cab driver: Hi mate, where do you want to go?
You: I don’t know, but I will tell you where I don’t want to go, I don’t want to stay here
Cab driver: That is interesting, why did you hail me?
You: Because I want to get to a better place
Cab driver: Where is that better place and how will you know when you get there?
You: I was hoping you could tell me
Cab driver: If you tell me where you want to go I can take you there. In the meantime, can I suggest you get out of my cab and call a cab once you know where you want to go?
Such a scenario may seem unlikely, if not ridiculous. As head-hunters we meet many candidates every week who want to find their next senior role.
